Na Aerosmith krijgt ook Metallica een eigen Guitar Hero titel. In Guitar Hero: Metallica volg je de groep door al hun hits. Hun hits worden afgewisseld met hits van groepen die belangrijk zijn voor Metallica zoals Slayer.
Op hun officiële site onthulde de band nu de volledige line-up van de game. Kopers van de Death Magnetic DLC voor de vorige Guitar Hero titels kunnen deze DLC ook in deze game spelen. De Wii en de PS2 versie zijn niet compatibel met de DLC, maar zij bevatten "Broken Beat & Scarred," "Cyanide" en "My Apocalypse" om dit goed te maken.
