Eén van de grootste releases dit jaar was The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, een game die hoge ogen gooiden en in vele Game of the Year lijstjes opgenomen zal worden. Dit succes vervolgen lijkt een logische stap, toch zijn hier niet direct plannen voor.
In gesprek met Famitsu heeft producer Eiji Aonuma laten weten dat er geen plannen zijn om nieuwe content uit te brengen. Als reden draagt hij aan dat ze er al alles aan hebben gedaan om het plezier in de wereld te brengen:

"There are no plans to release additional content this time, but that's because I feel like we've done everything we can to create fun in that world. In the first place, the reason I decided to make this a sequel to the previous work was because I thought there was value in experiencing a new game in that Hyrule place. Then, if such a reason is newly born, it may return to the same world again. Whether it's a sequel or a new work, I think it will be a completely new game, so I'd be happy if you look forward to it."
Diens voorganger, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, kreeg na diens release wel twee stuks aan downloadable content. The Master Trials voegde gameplay modi, features en items toe, terwijl The Champions' Ballad bestond uit een nieuwe dungeon, verhalende content, kleding, challenges en de motor Master Cycle Zero.
